Parents of ADHD Children

Parenting is a complicated task and no child was born with descriptive manual. Yet, parenting the child with ADHD/ADD is even more complicated and difficult. During the group therapy, parents will be educated about their child and their condition. In my experience working with child with hyperactivity and attention problem, parents think that something drastically wrong with their child or child is not smart enough or has some disability; then, they feel guilty that as parents what did they do wrong or think their child and themselves are stuck with some kind of disorder that never heals. In group therapy, parents learn about their child’s condition and how their child’s brain pattern work and how they can adjust their home environment and parenting skills accordingly.

In group, parents or group members share their unique experiences and the parenting skills that work for them and what they do to modify parenting skills that did not work for them. They learn not only their child has no disability but children with ADHD/ADD condition are the most creative children. Parents learn how they can understand their children better and work with their child as a result more effectively. It is granted that skills and knowledge parents learn in this group will improve their relationship with their child and more importantly how to help their children successfully.
